Wisconsin Seller’s Permit Information
The Wisconsin Department of Revenue is applying laws for vendor reporting by event operators at Temporary Events like Iola Car Show and Swap Meet. We will be subject to fines up to $500.00 per offense for failing to provide accurate and complete information of all our vendors/sellers. Because of this, every vendor/seller is required to supply a seller’s permit number starting with 456-xxxxxxxxxx-xx. No other number prefix is a valid seller’s permit and should not be used.
All vendors/sellers must submit the last four of their SSN and either the Seller's Permit Number or an appropriate exemption code. If an FEIN has been assigned, provide the last four of that as well.
Please note, there have been no changes in the statutes regarding who is required to have a seller’s permit, only changes in the required reporting by Temporary Events. Because of the fines that will be imposed, we cannot accept vendors who fail to provide all of the required information.
If you have questions about whether or not you require a seller’s permit, or fit an exemption code, please visit:
Exemption Codes
If a vendor/seller doesn’t have/need a seller’s permit number, they should choose an appropriate exemption.
1 – Exempt sales only or display only 3 – Nonprofit occasional sales exemption
2 – Multi-level marketing company pays sales tax 4 – Exempt occasional sales
Iola Car Show cannot answer any questions about your tax requirements.
